Review : Dymo LabelPOINT 250

Dymo LabelPoint 250The Dymo Labelpoint250 is a breakthrough in label printing technology.  The Labelpoint 250 is a far cry from the old plastic label makers with a big letter wheel and a plastic label tape.  This machine comes with a complete A-B-C style keyboard (instead of the QWERTY keyboards commonly found on laptop and desktop computers) with keys large enough for a full sized adult to operate. The keys are colour coded for easier recognition.

Entered label text is displayed on the 13 character monochrome liquid crystal display (LCD), allowing you to preview and correct labels before they are printed.  The 250 will hold up to one hundred characters in its memory enabling a number of handy features.  Obviously, to repeat a label there is no need to enter it again, as it is stored in memory.  Enter the label once; print it as many times as you need.  Sequential labels can also be auto-numbered, based on entered text.

The Dymo Label point 250 prints in an Arial font.  It supports eight different font sizes, text can be italicised, outlined, underlined, boxed, and shaded.  Entered text can include letters, numbers, and symbols.  Text can be printed horizontally, vertically, or mirrored, in up to two lines per label.  The operator can adjust these parameters on a label-by-label basis, or set preferences through a setup menu.

The Dymo 250 prints on a Dymo D1 label tape with 180 dots per inch (dpi) resolution.  It uses thermal transfer printing to minimize the complexity of the label maker, and thereby increase its reliability.  The D1 label tape is the only consumable.  Once the label is printed, use the built-in cutter to detach the label from the blank label tape.  To apply labels, the backing is peeled off of the label, exposing its adhesive.  Stick the label on the item to be labeled, and that’s all there is to it.

Dymo has made the Labelpoint 250 with ergonomic design in mind, to make its use over time easier on the operator.  Weighing in at just 691 g, it is lightweight and easy to carry.  It runs on six AA sized batteries for maximum portability, but can also be used with an optional AC adapter.  And, priced at only £36.95, it is a great, and welcomed, upgrade over its little brother, the LP150.
